Katsaras Giorgos

Katsaras Giorgos

He was born in Elassona and since the age of 14 he has been involved with the rhythmic percussion family. His study and teaching revolves around ethnic percussions from Greece, Cuba, Brazil and Arab countries. He studied drums and traditional percussion at the music school of Dimitrios Chiave in Elassona and at the same time was a performer at the Philharmonic of the same municipality.

He is an active musician in various musical groups but has also taken part in music, dance and theater performances. He has many record collaborations such as Thomas Bekou and Apostolis Fotiadis. In 2001 he was co-creator of “Dis is da drum”, one of the first percussion groups in Greece with various, from time to time, performances. His need for thorough research on the nature of percussion led him to construct some of them. His dream is for people to meet and fall in love with the, for some, “underestimated” percussions and to take the place that belongs to them.

From 2004 to 2010 he taught drums and traditional percussion at the Music School of Larissa and from 2010 at the conservatories of Giannoulis and Ampelona. Since 2014 he has been teaching at the Modern Conservatory of Larissa.
